Foundry has just released Cara VR 2.0, their toolset for Nuke which enables compositing and stitching of 360° videos. One of the new features is the Ocula tool for stereo corrections. Check below to see some of the new features.

New Features
C_GlobalWarp
A new node, C_GlobalWarp, has been added to rapidly produce a preview stitch using metadata, passed downstream from a C_CameraSolver, to help minimize ghosting in overlap regions. C_GlobalWarp adds controls to adjust a stitch to line up key features and allows you to add constraints to reduce warping on known straight lines in the rectilinear input images.

C_Tracker
C_Tracker has been redesigned to simplify and accelerate the process of stabilisation and matchmoving. C_Tracker runs on the GPU, where available, and adds automatic tracking in 360 stitches. You can then use the existing user defined tracks workflow to lock stabilisation to particular regions.

C_DisparityGenerator
C_DisparityGenerator has been rewritten to utilise the quality of Ocula's disparity vectors in CaraVR. CaraVR now includes a gizmo tool, C_DisparityToDepth, designed to convert disparity to a depth map. Depth maps can be useful in compositing when you're placing 3D objects in a scene.

C_NewView
A new node, C_NewView, has been added to simplify and accelerate 360 corrections in stereoscopic stitching. C_NewView brings the quality of Ocula's view rebuilding to CaraVR by incorporating the improved disparity vectors from the C_DisparityGenerator node. C_NewView also computes occlusion in stereo camera pairs automatically.

C_StereoColourMatcher
A new node, C_StereoColourMatcher, has been added to ensure left and right stereo views are consistent for a comfortable viewing experience. C_StereoColourMatcher brings the quality of Ocula's colour matching to CaraVR by incorporating the improved disparity vectors from the C_DisparityGenerator node. C_StereoColourMatcher also computes occlusion in stereo camera pairs automatically.

Nuke PixelSorter & Nuke Gif Writer

Foundry has released two new tools called the Pixel Sorter and Gif Writer. The pixel sorter helps to sort pixels from light to dark, while the Gif Writer allows you render out Gifs from Nuke without the need for Photoshop. The video below gives a little demonstration of how both tools work. Both tools are now available on Nukepedia for download.

Cycles 4D Update - Build 247

Insydium has released the Cycles 4d update, and this update contains bug fixes and lots of great new features, all of which will increase performance and stability. This is available to all customers covered by the Cycles 4D maintenance contract.

Cycles 4D owners will receive this update automatically, as long as you have enabled your Cycles 4D Online Updater. Alternatively, the email you received from INSYDIUM LTD when you purchased their software, contains a download link; this link will provide you with their latest version of Cycles 4D.

This build supports Cinema 4D R14 and R15, which means that Cycles 4D works with Cinema 4D R14 through to R19.

Chaos Group releases "V-Ray Next" for 3ds Max

Last Friday, Chaos Group released the first beta of "V-Ray Next" for 3ds Max, which happens to be the next major update to the renderer. Unlike the before, this new update comes without a version prefix attached to its name. However, this is still the first beta of version four (4.02.01, to be precise) and it will look and feel remarkably like any 3.x version you've experienced, which would be good, as many of the radical code base changes have already taken place.

The goal of the Beta Phase 1 is precisely to track down any inconsistency in feature behaviour as compared to 3.x, which would signal some potential issue to be swiftly eradicated.

Availability
V-Ray Next, (Beta 1) for 3DS Max is available now for all licensed users. However, the current release of the software, V-Ray 3.6 for 3ds Max can be purchased for $1,040 for one floating user licence and one floating render node licence.

OctaneRender for Unity on the Asset Store

OctaneRender is the path-traced, GPU-accelerated render engine. In Unity, OctaneRender is available for free, or at $20 or $60 for packages that unlock more GPUs and OctaneRender plugins for other 3D authoring tools.
OctaneRender Recorder now allows you to record animations or sequences made with Unity’s Timeline and export either as a movie file or as an ORBX format, which can leverage OctaneRender Cloud. Recorder makes composing films through Timeline, Cinemachine, and now Play mode, that much easier.

In advance of next year’s Octane 4 with Brigade, our real-time path-tracer, OctaneRender for Unity is limited to pre-rendered content. However through cinematic rendering and the upcoming Live Lightmap Baking, OctaneRender for Unity expands what you can do in the engine today.

Getting started with OctaneRender is easy: go to the Asset Store and download any of scene packages. When you load any one of them, you will be prompted to install OctaneRender for Unity.

Features
The PBR (Physically-Based Rendering) Viewport. It provides a window into your scene as viewed by a path-traced render engine.
OctaneRender materials and lighting. For pre-rendered sequences, OctaneRender steps up the quality of the scene immediately, even with standard Unity shaders. You can also choose to leverage OctaneRender’s node-based material and lighting system, which improves the overall look even further with physics-based quality.
In future versions, OctaneRender for Unity will also support Open Shading Language (OSL) for even greater flexibility.
OctaneRender Prime, Studio, and Creator

OctaneRender for Unity comes in three versions—a free tier and two subscription options—each of which is feature complete.

OctaneRender Prime is available for free by downloading an OctaneRender asset from the Asset Store. Prime only allows access to your primary GPU and comes with no additional plugins. Annual subscriptions to OctaneRender Studio and OctaneRender Creator offer access to more GPUs and a selection of additional plugins.

OctaneRender Studio is $20 per month and allows access to 2 GPUs and a selection of 1 additional plugin.
OctaneRender Creator is $60 per month and allows access to up to 20 GPUs and a selection of 3 additional plugins
Both OctaneRender Studio and Creator also include OctaneRender for NUKE and for After Effects as standard plugins. Simply follow the instructions emailed after loading OctaneRender Studio or Creator to redeem and download while selecting your additional plugins.

ExoTools has released "ExoSwitch Constraint", a Bi-Directional constraint for Maya. This constraint introduces a new paradigm for character rigging and animation. The ExoSwitch Constraint system is by nature a bi-directional constraint built to give users the ability to determine "direction" on the fly.

And to remove the problem of delivering a character into the pipeline in a pre-determined state, the constraint fully supports animating which transforms at any given time to represent the drivers of the system. Using masks, the constraint itself can be configured on the fly giving unprecedented versatility and simplicity to the Character Technical Director and Animator.
